What I'm Looking Forward To Most This Autumn

There is something about the start of autumn that I just love. The mornings feel a little crisper, the temperature starts to dip, the leaves slowly begin to change and I find myself reaching for my favourite jumpers again. And if you know me you’ll find me permanently attached to my hot water bottle.

I think autumn is probably my favourite season for slowing things down a little. I naturally want to spend more time at home, settle back into a cosy routine, bake something, curl up with a good book or get outside and enjoy the changing colours.

There is something about this time of year that makes the little everyday things feel a bit more enjoyable.

So, as we head into this cosy time of year, I thought I’d share a few of the things I’m looking forward to most this autumn. From rewatching an old favourite TV show and finally getting to that book on my TBR, to baking, exploring autumn colour and reaching for some of my favourite seasonal skincare and supplements. A little collection of things I’m very happy to be bringing back into my life.

For cosy evenings: Gilmore Girls

If there is one show that belongs firmly in the autumn category, it has to be Gilmore Girls. Cosy Stars Hollow, endless coffee, chunky jumpers, autumn leaves, slightly chaotic relationships and a frankly impressive amount of food.

It’s basically autumn in television form. I rewatch it every year and, for anyone wondering, I am always Team Jess.

There is also something so comforting about rewatching a show you’ve seen before. You already know the characters, the storylines and what’s coming next, and sometimes that’s exactly what I want.

Something sweet: my tahini cookies

I don't think an autumn favourites list would be complete without a bake. And although I have plenty of recipes I love, I always come back to my Tahini Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

They've become one of my favourite things to make when I want something sweet and cosy without spending hours in the kitchen. They're gluten-free and dairy-free, made with tahini and buckwheat flour, with big chunks of dark chocolate running through them.

The tahini gives them a lovely slightly nutty, savoury flavour, which makes them a little different from your standard chocolate chip cookie.

My favourite way to eat one is still slightly warm, when the chocolate is all melty and gooey in the middle. Exactly what I want alongside a cup of tea on an autumn afternoon.

An autumn outing: Sheffield Park

One of my favourite things about autumn is getting outside and actually seeing the season change. I'm a lifelong National Trust member, so I love making the most of it and visiting different places throughout the year, but Sheffield Park & Garden is particularly beautiful when autumn arrives.

The colour is incredible, and the lakes make the whole place feel even more magical, especially when the trees are reflected in the water. It's one of those places that makes you want to take your time and just wander.

On my autumn wellness shelf

As the seasons change, there are a couple of things I naturally start reaching for. First up is Beam & Balance by Bare Biology, a vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 spray. I use this every autumn and winter as the days get shorter and we're naturally getting less sunlight. It’s so easy to use as a spray and it's one of those things that has quietly become part of my autumn routine over the years.

The other thing I tend to have in the cupboard during the colder months is A.Vogel Echinaforce Echinacea Drops. This is another one I've used for years and naturally reach for when autumn rolls around. I like adding it to a diluted warm blackcurrant cordial and having it there as part of my seasonal routine, particularly as we head into the colder, darker months.

Not medical advice, these are personal recommendations based on what I use and find helpful. Always check that supplements and products are suitable for you and speak to your doctor or health professional if you're unsure.

My autumn TBR

I’m an audiobook lover, and there is something about finding a book that matches the season that makes me enjoy it even more. So, for my autumn TBR, I’m going a little witchy with Weyward by Emilia Hart.

Three women. Five centuries. Witchcraft, nature, female resilience and an old cottage in the English countryside. It feels very autumnal to me.

I’ve been wanting to read it for a while, and autumn feels like exactly the right time to finally settle in and get lost in it.

A little extra skin TLC

As soon as the seasons change, my skin tends to notice. The colder air, and eventually the central heating, means my skin needs a little more moisture and a bit of extra TLC. My go-to is the Saviour Moisture Mask + Hyaluronic Acid by Sarah.

It’s a natural moisturising mask that I love using when my skin is feeling particularly dry or just needs a little pick-me-up. I love little rituals like this because they don’t need to be complicated to feel special, sometimes it’s the simplest things that make settling into a new season feel really lovely.

So, that’s a little glimpse into what I’m looking forward to most this autumn. The things that bring me joy, make me feel cosy and give me something to look forward to as the evenings start to draw in.
